Cycling route Hoofdplaat, IJzendijke and Terneuzen

You cycle the first part of the route behind the dike that protects the lowland Zeeland land against the Western Scheldt. Just past junction 34 you drive past the Plaskreek, a nature reserve rich in birds. In Hoofdplaat you will see a monument to commemorate the residents who died during the liberation of this area in 1944. You can briefly cross the dike to look out over the Western Scheldt, after which you drive through the polder to IJzendijke. You will see some beautiful monumental buildings on the Markt. From Ponte you drive a bit along the Passageule: a former creek that was used as a defense belt during the Eighty Years' War. In Terneuzen you can enjoy a delicious meal at Taste Churchill , after which you will pass the Landingsmonument at junction 14.
