Cycling route Hoofdplaat, IJzendijke and Terneuzen

The first part of the route you cycle behind the dike that protects the low Zeeland land from the Western Scheldt. Just past junction 34 you cycle along the Plaskreek, a bird-rich nature reserve. In Hoofdplaat you see a monument to commemorate the inhabitants who died during the liberation of this area in 1944. You can cross the dike for a moment to look out over the Western Scheldt, after which you cycle through the polder to IJzendijke. At the Markt you see some beautiful monumental buildings here. From Ponte you cycle a bit along the Passageule: a former creek that was used as a defensive belt during the Eighty Years' War. In Terneuzen you enjoy a delicious meal at Taste Churchill , after which you pass the Landing Monument at junction 14.
