Your starting point for this route is Landhotel Alberts, a modern and stylish 4-star family hotel in Slenaken. A wonderful base for your bike ride here, you are guaranteed to relax in the good Auping beds! The hotel is beautifully situated on the Heijenrath plateau, between the Geul and Gulp valleys, in the middle of the beautiful South Limburg hills. The Netherlands' highest country hotel! Explore the wooded area and imagine yourself abroad for a while. Cycle around the Vijlenerbos in Limburg and discover a part of Belgium during this bike ride. This forest is very special, because five different species of mustelids hunt smaller prey between the trees: the stone marten, the badger, the stoat, the polecat and the weasel. You will also find many historical highlights here, such as the Commanderie where the commander of the Teutonic Order used to reside. The wing topped by a tower is the oldest part of the historic commandery. The beautiful Vaalsbroekermolen belongs to the farm of Vaelsbroek Castle, which today looks like a U-shaped white mansion. Landgoed Schoutenhof offers you a beautiful view of the hills and forests that connect directly to the park of the estate. Along the way you will pass nice places to get off, such as the cozy Herberg Oud Holset, in the southernmost tip of the Netherlands near Vaals and a stone's throw from the Drielandenpunt. Hotel-Restaurant Berg en Dal is located in the village center of Slenaken, approximately where Mergelroute and Krijtlandpad intersect. And nearby, just above Slenaken, Hotel'De Zevende Heerlijkheid\\\', named after the old lordship of Slenaken, is proudly displayed. A hospitable stopping place in the beautiful hilly area that is also called'Little Switzerland\\\'. From the terrace and conservatory you have a breathtaking view at any time of the year. Also very special is Hoeve de Plei, a cozy farm hotel in a particularly beautiful environment. You can fully enjoy yourself on the sunny terrace or by the fireplace in the attractive living room. A must whether the sun is shining or not!
