\\\'s Gravenvelden, Slenaken and Neerbeek

Picturesque roads in'the garden of Heuvelland\\\'. Take a look at the surroundings of Slenaken and be surprised by a picturesque part of Belgium! Crosses and chapels are frequently present here and form ornaments in the landscape. The meandering river Gulp splashes to your heart's content and winds its way to lower areas. Slenaken, like the surrounding villages, has beautiful half-timbered houses. The small scale is touching and atmospheric. Cycling through the area is a pleasure! Enrich your knowledge of cultural history with a visit to the Commanderie. The complex consists of a main building, a farm, stables and a gatehouse. The oldest part of the fortress is the L-shaped wing, topped by a tower. A number of ponds were added to the original ring moats around the commandery in 1885. This former commandery of the Teutonic Order was donated by Daniel van Voeren in 1242, when he arrived there. The castle was the commandery of Alden Bielden; the commander stayed here. In 2013, trout, sturgeon and eel are farmed on site.
