Tour of Sambeek, Boxmeer and Beugen

Your route starts at Camping & Gastenverblijf De Brembroeken. Boxmeer, originally called 'Mere', is known for its beautiful nature. Cycling along the left bank of the Maas, you can fully enjoy the unique Maasheggen landscape. The Romans had a hard time here, they could not advance here in large numbers as they were used to. The area around Boxmeer was already inhabited in Roman times. The surrounding Land van Cuijk and Gelre still had a strong influence on the area at that time, but over the centuries Boxmeer gradually freed itself from the influence of these municipalities: Boxmeer became a free lordship. After several sieges and destructions, a noble country house was built on the site of the castle.
