Description

With 35 square kilometers of open water, reed beds and swamp forests, De Weerribben National Park is one of the most important wetlands in Europe. You can also see special windmills. Tjaskermolen Ossenzijl/Kalenberg, built in 1977, is located in an open area, perfect for photos. The other mill in Kalenberg is the spider head De Wicher, built in 1982. Since the small spinnekop mills are not common anymore in the Netherlands, this is definitely a mill that you should take a look at. You will also pass the bell tower of Sonnega. In the fifteenth century there was a church in this small town, with a bell tower built diagonally behind it. You can learn more about the area at the nature activity center De Weerribben. Take a break along the way at Restaurant Het Hof van Holland!
