Weststellingwerf, Friesland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 136175
Provided by: Groots Genieten
With 35 square kilometers of open water, reedlands and swamp forests, De Weerribben National Park is one of the most important swamp areas in Europe. You will also see special windmills there. Tjaskermolen Ossenzijl/Kalenberg built in 1977 is located in an open area, perfect for photos. The other mill in Kalenberg is the De Wicher spider mill, built in 1982. Since small spider mills are no longer common in the Netherlands, this is definitely a mill you should take a look at. You will also pass the bell chair of Sonnega. In the fifteenth century there was a church in this small town, with a bell tower built diagonally behind it. You can learn more about the area at the De Weerribben nature activity center.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
