This route takes you through the woods of Monastery Ter Apel. The medieval Crosier monastery now houses a museum: well worth a visit!
The first kilometers you drive through the valley of the Ruiten Aa, the heart of the Westerwolde region. Here you cycle through a mosaic of grain-covered ash trees and grasslands lined with woods. This stream valley is one of the most beautiful in the Netherlands for a reason! You will also pass through the Sellinger Woods. Here you will find the Theater of Nature, a unique nature viewing hill. Be sure to take a look!
Groningen may be known for its expansive landscape, but at Ter Apel you pass through a forest again. And not just any one: this monastery forest was already planted around 800. Further on you make a stop at Pavilion Jachthaven de Runde. Monastery Ter Apel dates from 1465, the present museum belongs to the Top 100 of Dutch UNESCO monuments. The route then takes you through the Sellingerveld nature reserve. You will also experience a refreshing tranquility here!
