Description

The Langstraat - bordered in the north by the Oude Maasje and in the south by the Brabant sand plateau - is named after a road between Geertruidenberg and 's-Hertogenbosch. Settlements arose along this road from the 14th century onwards. Before the St. Elisabeth Flood (1421), this region belonged to a large Dutch peat area. In the vicinity of's Gravenmoer the peat was not washed away by the St. Elisabeth Flood and peat was dug there for a long time.
