Tour of Westerbork and Schoonloo

Your route starts at Holiday Park Diana Heide. Find your way through the Hooghalen forestry, to the Camp Westerbork Memorial Center. You will pass right by, so it is worth stopping at this impressive place. After a visit to Schoonloo and the Elper river basin you will come to a sheepfold. The Orverlte sheep flock consists of Schoonebeker sheep, a very rare breed from which many other flocks originated. If you encounter other Schoonebeker sheep in Drenthe, there is a good chance that their family tree leads back to this herd. Westerbork is always associated with the concentration camp, but the village itself is also worth a visit. In this green village you will find the fifteenth-century Stephen's Church, the lower part of the tower dating back to the thirteenth century.
