Tour of Westerbork and Schoonloo

Your route starts at Holiday Park Diana Heide. Make your way through the Hooghalen forest to the Westerbork Camp Memorial Centre. You will pass right by it, so it is worth stopping briefly at this impressive site. After a visit to Schoonloo and the Elperstroom area, you will arrive at a sheepfold. The Orverlte flock consists of Schoonebeker sheep, a very rare breed from which many other flocks originated. When you encounter other Schoonebeker sheep in Drenthe, there is a good chance that their ancestry traces back to this flock. Westerbork is always associated with the concentration camp, but the village itself is also worth a visit. In this village centered around a village green, you will find the 15th-century St. Stephen's Church, the lower part of whose tower even dates back to the 13th century.
