Wapenveld, Veessen and Heerde

Cycle through the area around Heerde and explore Wapenveld and Veessen. Wapenveld was first mentioned when a brother house and church were built around the beginning of the fifteenth century. Over the centuries, the village has suffered from flooding due to the large amount of water that flowed from the Hoge Veluwe to the lower areas. In 1916 a permit was issued to build a steam pumping station so that the water could be pumped away. Just south of Wapenveld you will find Heerde. According to excavations, the area around Heerde is believed to have been inhabited from 4500 BC. The village has developed into a popular destination for tourists. The area is perfect for cycling trips through the Zwolle forest and Wapenveldse Broek. The Heerderstrand, a recreational lake located just outside Heerde, is also a nice place to enjoy nice weather, in the middle of forest and heath.
