Description

The first point of interest on the route is Hunebed D1. This dolmen is the most northerly in the province and that is why people started here with the numbering of the dolmens in Drenthe. The stone grave lies against a slope of sand and is well preserved. The hunebed consists of twelve supporting stones, six capstones and two keystones. The hunebed was restored in 1953/1954, when the capstones were put back in place. You then cycle to a burial mound near Bakkeveen. Roden is located in the Noordenveld, in the Kop van Drenthe. The etchair, the assembly of etten chaired by the drost, met here twice a year. Despite this, the village never received city rights.
