Cycling through the Frisian peat area

From Drachten you can drive straight into the countryside. Between the vast grasslands and many streams you can enjoy the high skies and views. After a while you arrive at the banks of the small lake Drachtster Wijde Ee. You cross the water with a ferry, after which you continue cycling through the polders. You pass the Haensmole, an eighteenth-century polder mill that was rebuilt in 2008 after being destroyed by a ship that went off course. You cycle along the banks of the river De Boorne to the beautiful old Oldeboorn. In Beetsterzwaag you pass some old stately buildings, such as the Eysingahuis and Lycklamahuis. Just outside the village you will pass Landgoed Lauswolt.
