Tour of historic gatehouses near Berlicum

After a cup of coffee at Eetcafé de Prins in Berlicum, you get on your bike. You soon drive through Engelenstede, a former swamp area. Now you see a mosaic of mixed deciduous forest, dry and moist heathlands, agricultural land, ponds and watercourses. The area is named after a farm that stood in this area around 1760. Further on you cycle a short distance between the coniferous trees of the Heeswijkse Bossen. In Heeswijk-Dinther it is time for a coffee and cake at Next Lunch & Eetcafé. Then you cycle a bit along the Aa to Assendelft: a former castle of which only the fifteenth-century gatehouse is still standing. A little further on you drive past the Seldensate Estate. Of the original medieval castle, only the gatehouse and part of the brewery have been preserved.
