Tour of historic gatehouses near Berlicum

After a cup of coffee at Eetcafé de Prins in Berlicum, you get on your bike. You soon cycle through Engelenstede, a former marshland. Now you see a mosaic of mixed deciduous forest, dry and moist heathlands, agricultural lands, ponds and waterways. The area is named after a farm that stood in this area around 1760. Further on, you cycle a bit between the conifers of the Heeswijkse Bossen. In Heeswijk-Dinther it is time for a coffee and cake at Naast Lunch & Eetcafé. Then you cycle a bit along the Aa to Assendelft: a former castle of which only the fifteenth-century gatehouse is still standing. A little further on you cycle past Landgoed Seldensate. Of the original medieval castle, only the gatehouse and part of the brewery have been preserved.
