Round Veendam

Veendam is a peat colony that emerged around 1655. The cherry game that was separated from Muntendam is called Veendam and Wildervank. Judging by the shape of the buildings, Veendam was a ribbon village, which originated in an elongated shape. Yet Veendam is different from other ribbon villages. The Ooster- and Westerdiep, which are located in the center, mean that the shape of Veendam had to be adjusted. From the original peat extraction and the peat shipping that came with it, it passed into coastal shipping and agricultural industry. Later this also gave an impulse to the industrial industry. You cross the Borgerswold, which was realized as a recreation area in 1971. The 450-hectare area consists of almost a quarter of water. So you can enjoy fantastic views over the lakes and watch other sportsmen practice their passion: basketball, skating, tennis, miniature golf or running. Canoeists, surfers, sailors, swimmers and water skiers can enjoy themselves on the water, but quiet areas have also been set up so that fishermen can indulge themselves.
