Shepherds, Veldwezelt and Martenslinde

Explore the beautiful village of Herderen, which is located in Droog-Haspengouw. An undulating open landscape with heights of up to 130 meters stretches out in front of you and offers the necessary challenge when you cycle through it. Nearby you will also find the beautiful Sieberg, which is of historical importance. The current Herderen is first mentioned in the twelfth century and was then still part of the Graafschap Loon. Over the years, the village has steadily expanded but has never obtained city rights. Near Herderen you will find the small church village of Veldwezelt. The village is located on an old Roman highway from Nijmegen to Tongeren. The first mention of the current village comes from the tenth century, when the area was still part of the Lambertus parish. Veldwezelt has traditionally been an agricultural village, until reed weaving became increasingly popular in the nineteenth century and there was also room for other crafts.
