Groote Heide, Leenderbos and Maarheeze

This route first takes you around the town of Budel and along the Belgian border. On your right is the Grote Heide nature reserve, with its forests and heathlands. You take a short trip to cycling junction 217 to enjoy the old, restored buildings of De Achelse Kluis Abbey. Here you can try the Trappist beer Achel, from the in-house brewery. The route continues over the heathland of De Groote Heide and through the forests of the Leenderbos. It is located on a continuous sand ridge between Eindhoven and the Belgian Achel. Coniferous forests and heathlands are intersected by stream valleys. The clear height differences arose during the last ice age.
