You start just outside Glimmen. You soon drive to the Paterswoldsemeer, on the border between the provinces of Drenthe and Groningen, which together with the Hoornsemeer forms the Drents-Groningen lake area. The Paterswoldsemeer was created by peat excavations in the sixteenth and seventeenth centuries. In the early 20th century, the area was discovered by wealthy holidaymakers. On the east side of the Paterswoldsemeer you will pass the De Helper mill from 1863. It was moved in 1961 and rebuilt here. The mill regularly grinds on Sunday afternoons. Cycling along the Paterswoldsemeer you will see many sailors, a beautiful sight! In Eelde, visit Museum De Buitenplaats, specialized in figurative art. Back at Pannenkoekhuis Paviljoen Appelbergen you can sit down for a pancake. You're probably craving that by now!
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
