Description
First you cycle to Steenwijk. Be surprised by the rich history of this former fortified town: Steenwijk has over 60 national monuments, including De Markt and the city canals. The fifteenth-century church tower is the oldest existing building in Steenwijk. The region around Nijeveen and Ruinerwold is former peat area. You cycle along vast meadows here. You also pass De Sterrenberg, a beautiful thatched corn mill from 1786. You can take a break at the tearoom and picking garden Het Groene Geschenk - be sure to discover the barefoot path.
