Peace, the vastness of the Dwingelderveld and Saxon farms: these are the wonderful ingredients of this beautiful tour through the beating heart of Drenthe.
Esdorpen
The route starts in the woods on the edge of the Dwingelderveld National Park. You soon enter the village of Beilen. Here you will pass, among other things, the Stephen's Church, a beautiful Gothic church building from the fourteenth century. Hijken is also an esdorp. Thanks to the many old farms, you can still experience the atmosphere of a bygone era.
The Dwingelderveld
Further on, you enter the fresh-smelling forests of the Dwingelderveld National Park via the cycle path. Get off on the heath and experience for yourself how wonderful it is to be in one of the quietest places in the Netherlands. Although the silence can be broken for a moment by the Ruiner sheep herd... Kraloo and the surrounding area enjoy a protected village view, here you can see how beautiful Drenthe used to be.
