Extensive reed fields, flowery hay fields and lots of water, that's what you can expect in the Giethoorn area. This route takes you through Giethoorn and through the Weerribben. Together with the De Wieden polder area, this area is one of the most important marsh areas in Europe. Hotel Restaurant Zwartewater forms the base of this route. Almost this entire route takes you through the special marshes of Weerribben-Wieden National Park. Along the way you can rest and enjoy a cup of coffee at Cafe Restaurant Wapen van Utrecht in Sint Jansklooster. You end the route where you started it: in Zwartsluis. This used to be a transit port for peat that was cut in Drenthe and transported to Holland.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
