Cycling from Giethoorn to Zwartsluis

Extensive reed fields, flowery hay fields and lots of water, that is what you can expect in the Giethoorn area. This route takes you through Giethoorn and through the Weerribben. This area, together with the De Wieden polder area, is one of the most important wetland areas in Europe. Hotel Restaurant Zwartewater is the base for this route. Almost this entire route takes you through the special swamps of the Weerribben-Wieden National Park. Along the way you can take a break and enjoy a cup of coffee at Cafe Restaurant Wapen van Utrecht in Sint Jansklooster. You end the route where you started it: in Zwartsluis. This used to be a transit port for peat that was cut in Drenthe and transported to Holland.
