Along the mysterious Black Water

It is wonderful to cycle over the winding dikes on either side of the Zwarte Water river. Here you have beautiful views over the floodplains and old farms. Around Zwartewatersklooster you drive along the peat area of the Olde Maten. There was a nunnery in this village in the Middle Ages. Just below Hasselt you drive over the Stenendijk, which dates from the sixteenth century. This monumental dike was originally intended as protection against the former Zuiderzee. You will pass De Zwaluw, a flour mill from 1784. In the center of the Hanseatic city of Hasselt you will experience a historic atmosphere thanks to the many monumental buildings. From Genemuiden you can cross the water with a ferry to the picturesque Zwartsluis. At Hotel Zwartewater you can sit on the terrace on the quay of the Zwarte Water.
