Aalsmeer, North Holland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 134422
Provided by: route.nl
The area where Aalsmeer originated used to consist of peat soils, from which a lot of peat was extracted. Now you can enjoy cycling around large lakes, such as the Haarlemmermeer. The large number of flowers that are concentrated in and around the town make Aalsmeer famous all over the world. The route leads first to the fort at Kudelstaart. The original situation around the fort has been preserved; the surrounding water and infrastructure are virtually unchanged. The next fort you will visit is Fort bij de Kwakel. This was one of the most important fortresses of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Halfway through you can take a rest at Het Tuinhuis, a cozy tea house on the water in Aalsmeer. Go for a nice lunch or a high tea before you continue cycling.
