Explore the Drents-Friese Wold from Diever

The Doldersummer field
Almost the entire route takes you through the national park. This is the second largest contiguous forest area in the Netherlands after the Veluwe. Here you often hear nothing but the whistling birds and the drumming of the black woodpecker that occurs here. If you are lucky you may even catch a glimpse of this little bird. Along the way you cycle right through the Doldersummerveld, a humid heath reserve that is maintained by grazing sheep. You also cycle past the sheepfold where the sheep stay at night. In the accompanying information center you can learn more about the sheep and the environment. In the south of the area you will find a watchtower that offers you a beautiful view over the Doldersummerveld.

The Schultehuis
In Diever you cycle past the Schultehuis. This house was built in 1604 as an official residence for the Schulte van Diever. The schulte used to be responsible for maintaining public order and it also had administrative and judicial tasks. The Schultehuis has been well preserved and church services were held there until 1989. Today you will find an archaeological museum in the house.
