Hop on your bike and experience the tranquility around Ter Apel. You cycle through the former peat-colonial area on the border with Germany. You will also pass through the monastic forests.

peat colony
The route starts at Pavilion Jachthaven de Runde. On the terrace you have a beautiful view of the harbor, while you enjoy your drink and snack. In the vast peat polders it is wonderful to make kilometers. You will experience a refreshing tranquility in this sparsely populated border area. You briefly cross the border into Germany, passing through Rütenbrock. You can admire the Saint Maximilian Church from 1870 here.

Monastery Ter Apel
Back at Ter Apel you will pass the famous medieval Crosier monastery from 1465, a building that belongs to the Top 100 of Dutch UNESCO monuments. Today the monastery is a museum for Monastery and Church history and Religious art. Around the monastery you cycle through forests that have already been planted around 800! There are many large, imposing old oaks and beech trees. That is enjoying nature.
