Description

Strips of green meadows, glass greenhouses and a sea of colorful fields full of wonderfully scented flowers are visible between Hoogkarspel, Wervershoof and Medemblik. Whatever season you visit: crocuses, tulips, daffodils, hyacinths, and gladiolus form beautiful fields of color, but dahlias, carnations and asters also bloom well in their season. The cycling tour starts in picturesque Enkhuizen, with its historic center that is intersected by canals and surrounded by an old fortification wall. Enkhuizen is known as one of the nicest towns to visit. You cycle to Medemblik, where you can admire Radboud castle. According to a legend from 1517, a castle already stood here in the seventh century, although no remains of this castle have ever been found. At the end of the thirteenth century, a strong fortress was built here, ordered by Count Floris V of Holland. He had this castle built as part of a series of castles to keep the West Frisians under control. Nowadays, many activities are organized in and around the castle.
