Strips of green meadows, glass greenhouses and a sea of colourful fields full of wonderfully scented flowers are visible between Hoogkarspel, Wervershoof and Medemblik. Whatever season you come: crocuses, tulips, daffodils, hyacinths and gladioli form beautiful fields of colour, but dahlias, carnations and asters also bloom well in their season. The cycle tour starts in the picturesque Enkhuizen, with its historic centre that is intersected by canals and surrounded by an old rampart. Enkhuizen is known as one of the nicest towns to visit. You cycle to Medemblik, where you can admire Radboud Castle. According to a legend from 1517, a castle already stood here in the seventh century, although no remains of this castle have ever been found. At the end of the thirteenth century, a strong fortress was built here, commissioned by Count Floris V of Holland. He had this castle built as part of a series of castles to keep the West Frisians in check. Nowadays, many activities are organized on and around the castle.
