Cycling through the Heuvelland

This route brings you a day with many peaks and panoramas. You enjoy the natural beauty, but also the characteristic South Limburg villages.

Mergelkerk
From the starting point you first drive a bit along the edge of Maastricht. On this fairly flat path you can kick off your legs while looking over the fields. On the horizon you see the wooded hills that you will drive on a little later. Around the old marl church in Eckelrade you can taste the characteristic South Limburg atmosphere. You can also see beautiful old square farms in villages such as Herkenrade and Banholt.

Limburg windmills
In the idyllic Gulpdal you will find a combination of natural beauty and tranquility. You pass Groenendaal: a large nineteenth-century farm that was once a castle. The Groenendaalsmolen, which is located a little further away, dates from 1850. The Neubourgermolen is a water mill that was installed in 1712 to grind paper. In Gulpen you will pass the striking church tower to which St. Peter's Church was once attached.
