Cycling through the Peel near Horst

After a wonderful night's sleep, you can drive into the countryside from Parkhotel Horst full of energy. You can cycle along car-free roads while you look out over the meadows and fields. You drive through the villages of Castenray and Veulen. Further on you cycle through the small-scale nature reserve De Paardekop, which houses the only German military cemetery in the Netherlands. In the Toon Kortoomspark you can learn more about the writer and take a look at the art garden. You pass through Griendtsveen and, a little later, Helenaveen: the only two former peat colonies in the southern Netherlands. The Deurnsche Peel (which is located on your right in Brabant) and the Mariapeel (which belongs to Limburg) form a unique remnant of an old vast raised bog area.
