This route takes you along the beautiful nature of the Maas. You will also pass through some beautiful towns that lie like pearls on the river.
Juliana Canal
It is wonderfully quiet cycling here between the grasslands and the water. You will pass through the old centres of Laak and Ohé, and you will also pass Het Geudje castle with its striking Maasland Renaissance facade from 1651. On the characteristic village square of Roosteren you will see the monumental Sint-Jacobus de Meerdere church from 1843.
Maaseik
From Grevenbricht you cross the Maas and with it the border with Belgium. In the Belgian part of the Maas valley it is also quiet cycling through the floodplains. You pass Bichterweerd, a nature reserve that partly consists of a lake created by gravel extraction. At the centuries-old Markt in Maaseik you will be amazed. What beautiful historical buildings are here! There is also a statue of the Van Eyck brothers, the fifteenth-century painters who were born in Maaseik.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
