Description

A bike ride through the historical treasury of Haspengouw! From Chateau de Hex you cycle to ancient Tongeren: you will be amazed from one surprise to the next.

Chateau de Hex
This route starts at Chateau de Hex. The park is particularly special: one of the first gardens designed on this continent. It still has exactly the same appearance as 300 years ago. Breathtaking is the beautiful rose garden with the most diverse types of roses. This region is bursting with history. Further on you will discover the Roman highway from Cologne to Boulogne-sur-mer, which ran via Tongeren. And you see a beautiful waterwheel mill, the Ruttermolen, built around 1360.

Ancient Tongeren
Tongeren has existed since the beginning of our era. The town played an increasingly important role in the history of the Low Countries, for example, it obtained a seat of the first bishopric in the third century. Nowadays Tongeren is a tourist attraction where beautiful churches, a beguinage and Roman remains can be admired. Stay the night at the hip Eburon Hotel and pay a visit to the Gallo-Roman Museum!
