Wonderful Tour of Leekstermeer Natural Monuments

Your cycling route starts at Van der Valk Hotel Groningen - Hoogkerk, a nice place for a cup of coffee. You make a nice bike ride to the hamlet of Peizermade.'Made\\\' means pasture or grassland, so the pasture at Peize. This used to be a very humid area that often flooded. You can still see water there: you cross the Gouw and follow the Peizerdiep for a long way. You walk around the Leekstermeer through rugged low moor areas in the valley between the higher Drenthe sandy soils and Groningen clay soils. These are the Onlanden, with wide grasslands, but also bushes and hedgerows. Along the way you will discover the Dutch Grain Museum, National Carriage Museum and nice terraces such as Cnossen Leekstermeer and Paviljoen Pool Terras aan het Water.
