Roosteren, Grevenbicht and Berg

Sandwiched between the Juliana Canal and the Maas is another church village: Grevenbicht. The oldest mention of the village dates from around 1400 when it was still called Grevenbiecht. Excavations of Roman finds prove that there was already plenty of activity on this site in the period from 57 BC to 400 AD. It was probably a junction of Roman trade routes. The village gained national fame through the annual world bachelor congress, which was held in Grevenbicht from 1952 to the early 1960s. Nine kilometers from the starting point of the tour you will arrive at the Grevenbichtermolen.

This water mill is located on the Kingbeek and was built in 1660 as a flour mill. In 1887 a turbine was placed in the mill, so that it could always be turned. The mill is still working today, but is no longer used. Fun fact is that the turbine of this mill is the oldest working turbine of Dutch manufacture. Nowadays there is a small cafeteria in the mill where you can relax with a drink or snack.
