It is wonderful to cycle around Markelo on car-free roads. Here you drive through a gently sloping landscape of fields, grasslands and small forest plots. Just past junction 5 you will see Markelo's famous radio and television tower. It was officially opened in 1959 and, including the mast, is 148 meters high. For those with a carpenter's eye: the tower is 23 centimeters off plumb. There is a replica of this tower in Madurodam. Around junction 97 you drive through the forests of the Rijssense Veld. Further on you will visit another nature reserve: the Borkeld. Here you will find a mosaic of forests, fields and grasslands. The largest juniper thicket in the Netherlands also grows here. The route ends at Holiday Park Buitencentrum Hessenheem, an ideal base for exploring Twente and Salland.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
