Description

Glaciers from Scandinavia shaped the landscape of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park 200,000 years ago and laid the foundation for the many forests and heathlands that now extend there. The forests have been planted to prevent sand drifts and form a nice change between the dry heathlands. Among other things, the rare juniper bushes and lingonberries, which are legally protected in the Netherlands, grow and bloom lushly here. You cycle back along the edge of the Holterberg, part of the Sallandse Heuvelrug National Park. It is a large hill, measuring 59.5 meters above sea level at its highest point. It is also special that the last viable population of grouse in the Netherlands lives in this special area.
