Authentic Brabant villages around Cuijk

Your route starts at Het Grote Broertje in the lovely Grave. You cycle along the wildly pushing water mass of the Maas and fields and meadows that seem endless to Cuijk. It is said that Cuijk once had city rights. According to a legend, Cuijk sold those city rights to the village of Grave. There is no evidence for this story, but Grave is indeed a city in contrast to Cuijk. Many tanneries, candle factories, breweries and tobacco and cigar companies have settled in Cuijk, which is why it has become the centre of this region. On the edge of the village of Beers you cycle past the De Hoop mill. This was used for a while as a bark mill for tanneries in Cuijk and later it was used to grind grain.
