Achelse Kluis tour from Neerpelt

Explore the Lage Kempen with this fun route. From Neerpelt you cycle via Sint-Huibrechts-Lille to the ancient town of Achel. The territory of Achel used to consist of more than half of wasteland. It is still a beautiful area with conifers and streams. You cycle through the Beverbeekse Heide, but don't be misled by the name: instead of vast heathlands you will find forest here. Close to the Dutch border you will pass the Achelse Kluis, the Sint-Benedictusabdij of Achel. The small monastic community lives from the sale of its own Trappist beer. The abbey cannot be visited and the church is only accessible during services, but you can take a look in the beautiful reception chapel.
