Tour of Achelse Kluis from Neerpelt

Explore the Lage Kempen with this fun route. From Neerpelt you cycle via Sint-Huibrechts-Lille to the ancient town of Achel. More than half of Achel's territory used to consist of wasteland. It is still a beautiful area with the conifers and streams. You cycle through the Beverbeekse Heide, but don't be misled by the name: instead of vast heathlands you will find forest here. Near the Dutch border you will pass the Achelse Kluis, the St. Benedict's Abbey of Achel. The small community of monks lives from selling their own Trappist beer. The abbey cannot be visited and the church is only accessible during celebrations, but you can take a look at the beautiful reception chapel. Get off at Grandcafé Markt 14 in Valkenswaard!
