Tour of Olde Maten from the Zwarte Dennen forest pond

Your cycling route starts at the recreational lake at the Zwarte Dennen, in the Staphorst forestry. This has traditionally been a location where generations, young and old, have enjoyed recreation and swimming. A popular place for many residents from Staphorst and the surrounding area. The beautiful forest attracts animals like a magnet. You will find foxes, deer, badgers and birds of prey, among other things, all in the middle of varied forests, heaths and fens. In the peat area you then drive between extensive meadows. You also pass through some mining villages. Further on you cycle through the Olde Maten, a beautiful peat meadow area that has been divided into narrow strips. At De Wijk you will discover De Havixhorst Castle and De Wieker Meule mill. This octagonal tower mill from 1829 is almost entirely covered with reeds.
