Tour Bunde, Maastricht and Itteren

Just a cup of coffee at Fietscafe't Winkelke in Itteren and then you're off. You first cycle along the Bunderbos, a sea of trees that stretches over a length of five kilometers. The ribbon-shaped forest covers a number of Maas terraces in the Maas valley. The Bunderbos is best known for the presence of the fire salamander. Castle Borgharen is the first sight you encounter. The seventeenth-century central wing, built in baroque style, forms the main building. The heavy pavilion towers and the lower service wings are built in a beautiful Maasland Renaissance style. Kasteel Geulle is a outer bailey of a castle that was demolished in 1847. You can reach the gatehouse with an arched bridge over the canal. On the other side of the road you can see fence pillars from the eighteenth century.
