The Jekerkwartier, the Latin Quarter of Maastricht, is one of the most beautiful neighborhoods in the city. With the nice cafes and old houses around the city walls, you really enter a different world here. Maastricht is a beautiful historic city, but you can also have fun in terms of design. The eastern bank of the Maas has taken on a completely new face in recent years with the Center Céramique and the Bonnefanten Museum, both beautiful to discover from the cycle path along the Maas. The start and end point of this route is Brasserie Friends. Here you can enjoy a delicious cup of coffee or the special shaken Eraclea ice tea and milkshakes on the terrace. But first we'll go for a bike ride. Geulle Castle is the first sight you encounter. The current castle is an outer bailey of the former seventeenth-century castle that was demolished in 1847. There is a moat around it and on the west side you can reach the gatehouse via an arched bridge. You cycle a beautiful route along the Maas to Maastricht and, just before the end point, you discover the Hartelstein farm, which belonged to a demolished castle, the moat of which still exists. The buildings date from the 17th and 18th centuries and are arranged around a courtyard with a round tower on the south corner. In the frame of the entrance gate you can still see the keystone with the year 1705. A trip through history!
