Tour of Almelo, Borne and Zenderen

Your route starts in Almelo. The history of the city starts with Huis Almelo, which was first mentioned in 1236. The settlement had city rights in 1420, but was never of military importance. One of the beautiful examples of the prosperity around Almelo is the manor Weleveld, which was founded around 1300. Around 1900 there were many wealthy families in the region, who built beautiful houses and villas in classical styles: Art Nouveau, Expressionism and Neo-Renaissance.
