Lummen, Zonhoven and Stokrooie

In the middle of the Kempen, an area that was already inhabited 11,000 years before Christ. The first farmers tried to cultivate the sandy soils in the area and laid the foundation for what would become Zonhoven. The terrain changed due to the felling of the primeval forest in the past. Slowly it became overgrown with heathland, fields and grasslands. In the immediate vicinity of Zonhoven you will find the nature reserve De Teut. This nature reserve was established in 1976 and further expanded in 1979. Fens, ponds, heaths and pine forests form a beautiful place. This is how the beautiful sundew and the legwort grow. Bird lovers will also not be bored here with birds such as the nightjar, tree pipit and wood lark.
