Walking around the fens and De Moerkuilen

Your walking route starts with a cup of coffee on the cozy terrace of Natuurpoort de Vresselse Hut. A beautiful nature reserve is hidden in the old cultural landscape around the Dommel: the Vressels Bos, part of the National Landscape Het Groene Woud. The Vressels Bos is about 250 hectares in size and is located on a shifting sand hill that is three meters higher than the surrounding fields. The Scots pines, oaks and beeches were planted in the 1920s. Fens and wet heaths form a mix here with the reclamation forests that were created in the 1920s. You then walk along De Moerkuilen, a peat lake that was created by peat extraction. This peat lake is located in the middle of a marsh forest and is bordered by overgrown sand heads.
