Description

This walk starts at Camping and Restaurant Strandbad Edam. Nearby you immediately walk past Buitenhuis De Meeuwen. At the beginning of 1900, Mr Noothoven van Goor bought the building. This man claimed that he was a bastard son of King William III and turned the building into a pleasure resort, where many parties were held. Along the Oorgat in Edam, near where the Oosterpoort used to be, you will pass the Jewish Cemetery. The oldest preserved gravestone dates from 1804, but the cemetery was already established in 1793. Via beautiful little Edam you walk to the port of Volendam and back. After lunch at Paviljoen Strandbad Edam, you can get a breath of fresh air on the dike and in the farmland.
