Description

Ede is full of war history, which you will discover with this walking route. Many operations took place in Ede, the most important of which was Operation Market Garden. In September 1944, about 2,000 allied paratroopers landed on the Ginkelse Heide in an attempt to conquer the bridges near Arnhem - known from the film'A bridge too far\\\'. The route leads you past the Liberation Monument Ede, erected in 1995 on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the liberation of this city. The stainless steel pyramid features Canadian and British flags. If you want to know more about the history, visit the Historical Museum Ede (moving to Cultura on the Molenstraat, in the building where the VVV is located, on the route).
