Tour of Amersfoort: to the Bergkapel

This walking route starts at Amersfoort station, handy! From here you can walk through the beautiful old center. Not only the city is worth a visit, the surroundings of Amersfoort are just as beautiful. With this route you will discover a very special piece of nature near Amersfoort: the forest Birkhoven, on a spur of the Utrechts Heuvelrug. The route leads you past the beautiful forest pond where you could spot a grass snake on a sunny day. There is also a viewing hill near the pond. South of the pond is a Pinetum in the middle of the forest: a collection of special coniferous trees. You also walk past the Bergkapel, founded in the period before the Second World War for the somewhat less conservative residents of the newly built Bergkwartier (industrialists, officers and intellectuals).
