Tour of Zoelen, Lith and Rossum

The area is known for idyllic orchards and lovely dike villages that lie along the River Maas. The city of Tiel used to be a flourishing trading city. At the Fish Market, for example, river fishermen offered salmon and twaite shad. In the mid-twentieth century, a glass factory also established itself in the city and Tiel gradually acquired more and more of a central function. You can also visit Fort Sint Andries during the tour. This is a former military fort of the New Dutch Waterline, which was built during the Siege of Zaltbommel in 1599 on behalf of Francesco de Mendoza. From this point the defenders had a good view of the river area.
