WML - Western Mergelland

The marl-rich subsoil is porous in many places; the groundwater is therefore sensitive to what happens above ground. That is why the groundwater protection areas here are the largest in the whole of Limburg. No less than 17% of all Limburg drinking water is extracted here annually.

In this gigantic area, comparable to some 14,000 football fields, a beautiful route has been mapped out. Under your wheels, deep in the ground, flows the drinking water of tomorrow. Enjoy, but responsibly. That means:

• stay on roads and paths;
• do not damage plants;
• take your rubbish with you;
• keep the dog on a leash and pick up after it.
