WML - Schinveldse forests

A relatively unknown green gem on the border: the Schinveldse Bossen. In some places, seepage water surfaces due to two thick, impermeable clay layers in the soil. Nature provides protection for drinking water sources and helps keep the groundwater as clean as possible.

This cycle route crosses national borders and partly follows the contours of the groundwater protection area. Located in that area are the various water extraction wells and the pumping station where the groundwater is purified via, among other methods, marble filtration.
