The Maasduinen area is a beautiful area with lots of forest and heathland. In the north of the area and south of De Maasduinen National Park, groundwater is pumped up and prepared into drinking water. About 2.6 billion liters of water are extracted here every year.
Between points 30 and 80 the route passes WML's Bergen pumping station. Here WML pumps up groundwater and purifies it through aeration, sand filtration and marble filtration into drinking water for Bergen and parts of Gennep and Venlo.
