The Maasduinen area is a beautiful area with lots of forest and heath. In the north of the area (Bergen) and south of National Park De Maasduinen (Hanik) groundwater is pumped up and prepared into drinking water. Approximately 2.6 billion litres of water are extracted here each year. Bergen and parts of Gennep and Venlo drink Maasduinen water.
