The Maas is a source of Limburg drinking water. This source does require additional purification. More than the naturally cleaner groundwater. This purification takes place at the water production company in Beegden. Every year, 17 billion liters of water are purified here, intended for (part of) the municipalities of Beesel, Horst aan de Maas, Leudal, Maasgouw, Nederweert, Peel en Maas, Roerdalen, Roermond, Venlo and Venray.
The route takes you over the Daalzichtdam. With the dam, WML has separated the former gravel holes Boschmolenplas and De Lange Vlieter. Because no activities are allowed on the water of De Lange Vlieter, WML can properly control the quality of the water here.
