Description
The name says it all: the Groote Heide consists mainly of heathland. On the south side are a few fields, sparse grassland and forest in which coniferous trees dominate. It is an important backyard for the city of Venlo.
To properly protect the groundwater, the entire nature reserve has been designated as a groundwater protection area. In this way we can ensure that Venlo's backyard can continue to supply excellent drinking water to the city. Annually this is about 4.6 billion litres.
Enjoy this route, but treat the environment with care! That means:

- do not damage plants;

- keep the dog on a leash and clean up the poop.
